Federal party leaders try to wrangle votes at Calgary Stampede

With an upcoming federal election, the leaders of Canada's political parties visited the Calgary Stampede with a sense of urgency following the NDP's upset victory in Alberta this year.

 

On the morning of the Stampede Parade, the Bank of America released a damning report stating that Canada is already in a recession.

 

Federal NDP leader Thomas Mulcair and Prime Minsiter Stephen Harper had differing opinons on what four consecutive months of a dropping GDP means for Canadians.

CALGARY – The death of a Calgary gas station attendant—struck by a truck while apparently trying to prevent a gas-and-dash—has raised questions about the responsibilities of station employees and renewed calls for mandatory pre-payment for gas.

 

Centex clerk Maryam Rashidi was rushed to hospital after she was hit by a truck along 16 Avenue N.W. on Sunday, and succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday afternoon.
 

Man missing after Arbor Lake house fire

CALGARY – The owner of an Arbour Lake  house severely damaged by fire Thursday says a basement tenant is safe and sound. 
The man’s whereabouts were a mystery and cause for concern.

 

“A tenant who lives in the basement is unaccounted for and it is unknown if he was home at the time of the fire,” said Calgary Fire Department spokesperson Carol Henke in a release.
